[Killietalk] Ecuador - Rio Napo

I guess I started this thread, inquiring about Killies in the Napo River in
Ecuador. It is amazing how fast it gets off track.

The town of Coca on the Rio Napo is an oil boomtown, which probably attracts
some bad elements, hence thievery. I have been going to Ecuador frequently
for the last ten years, mainly Quito and Guayaquil. It is one of the safest
countries in the Western Hemisphere, although for the last few years the
local have complained about some bad guys coming down from Colombia.

Regarding altitude sickness, I am a retired airline pilot, and going to
Quito at 10,000 feet sometimes caused some minor altitude related distress,
usually a headache the next day. I always took an aspirin upon arrival and
had no problems. This also worked going skiing in Colorado. Whenever you
fly on a commercial airline, your cabin altitude is usually about 8,000 feet
at cruise, which is no big deal.

Now, getting back to killies...........we are going to a place called La
Selva, which is about a 3 hour motor canoe ride downstream from the town of
Coca on the Napo River. There are some feeder streams, a lake, and some
blackwater areas. We might just see what a net brings up. Thanks for the
words, Joe
