Re: [Killietalk] blue gularis question
This is the long version. http://www.djramsey.com/tropfish/blue_gularis.htm
This is the short version.
Right now I only put about a pint of spaghnum moss in a plastic file box
with about half the bottom covered in sinking mops. Gravel bottom. Take out
the peat with a regular net, pull out the mops. Figure eight above the
gravel with a brine shrimp net will collect the eggs. I nearly always have
at least 200-300 eggs over a 3 week period per pair. I put the eggs on one
of the mops. Yep, great blobs of eggs rubbed off on the mop. When finished
doing the figure eights, I let the mop drip dry for about 15 minutes,
squeeze the bottom to get the water collected there. Into a bag, into a box
on the top shelf of a bookcase. Right now temperature where the box is
running 75 or a little better. Eggs are ready to hatch in 2-3 weeks.
And for the other question, mine stay very blue for about a year. They all
seem to fade out the blue when older. Mine stay more blue, but do not get as
big.
I quite often raise up gardneri, walkeri, amieti in a 10 or 29 gallon tank
with baby cories on the bottom. Someone asked about the aggressiveness of
Blue Gularis. I tried Blue Gularis fry (under 1") in a tank with a bunch of
cories growing up. The Blues feasted on cory eyes. They just picked at the
eyes. I now have about a dozen cories that are a great breeding group except
they all only have 1 eye. So Blues can be quite nasty even at a young age.
