If my memory strikes me correct, i do believe i read somewhere once that
males of Riv Marmoratus where attained by keeping newly hatched fry in
water temps below 68°F for the first 6 weeks of their lives....   Then
the "herm" would actually grow up to be Males.... real males...  Don't
quote me on this, but ive always had an interest in Riv Marmoratus, just
have had very poor success with the fish.
