Re: [Killietalk] spinach in a blender for daphnia food?`
Hello there Kate!
I would like to comment that it is important to understand that the
Daphnia feed on many things. If a culturing tub is plentiful in infusorians
yadda, yadda, there will be more than enough food for a large production of
these critters. Yes, algae is important for nutrition of the daphnia, after
they eat it, and then your fish consume them, BUT, there is my point. If the
Ground duck weed is thought to increase the production of your daphnia, I
suggest it is a wrong conclusion, and suggest a larger culture of
infusorians for your shrimp to eat, easily added in one of the many ways
discussed previously. I add micro algae and once in a wile I'll add a
rotifer supplement, like the one from Sachs, to increase the vitamins
getting to the fish. I feed the daphnia in a separate bowl with these
additives in them, so I do not have to feed a large container ! I believe
this may deliver a stronger dose to the shrimpies and increase the nutrition
level. The rabbit dookie I have been using, coupled with some fresh
infusions of lake rotifers I dipped out a local pond, seems to be enough for
my cultures. I have added some pictures of my newest daphnia pond/ vegetable
garden in the meb only section in the AKA site, I will update when something
new happens!
