Cyprinodon variegatus, in particular, is an excellent community tank fish for 
marine aquariums, where it scavenges anything and grazes on algae, besides 
spawning and producing eggs/larvae that other fish can eat. It's a good fish in 
a big tank, but doesn't play well with others in confined spaces. The Yucatan 
form gets almost black in marine water. I don't if the other populations also 
darken in full sea water.
