Re: [Killietalk] Golden killies

What do the roots look like? I never tried that, but you can always try new
things. These fish like to stay up at the top of the tank. In the wild, once
they see insects, etc, they jump up and catch them. They are in my opinion a
classic jumper. Thats why you should take the fry out once you see them,
just as Bill said, as they will eat them. If you want to try the roots they
probably have to be long, and there should be a lot and space enough for
them to travel through. If you want, just take the eggs out once you see
them. They are pretty big for eggs, so you can't miss them. If you don't see
any eggs soon (about 1-2 weeks), best bet is that your other critters are
having dinner.

I just bought a pair at a pet shop the other day. It's been while since I
had them. Boy I wish I can get that nice, REAL red strain.

Have fun!
Doug

They like to breed in floating mops, well mine do anyway. Keep an eye out
for your tetras and cats as they may go for eggs if hungry.

We have two males, three female Aplocheilus Lineatus.
We had some terrible algae blooms that I associated to very high
bioload.
Dropping more than half of the fish load of the aquarium plus an
addition of
many new plants seems to have sparked the interest of my killies in
mating.
I'm not an expert in the breeding habits of this species, I could only
guess
that the coupling and resulting behavior is typical mating for this
species,
(they swim along the bottom very slowly then start undulating
together)

I
have yet to see any egg deposits. but they keep trying. So if anyone
has
advice I would like to hear it.
My tank is a 50gl, with only a few species of tetras and some Cory
cats
and
clown loaches, but no aggressive fish of any kind. There is much room,
many
plants and caves and hiding places if any fish should need to be
reclusive
or stake a territory.; thank you for your advice and time with this
matter ,
