Re: [Killietalk] Riv.atratus update
Could anyone maintaining Rivulus atratus keep an eye on pectoral fins. I am
noticing white bags developing at the root of both fins in both sexes. I
have examined this under a 10x lens & it looks like a normal part of the
fish. This is not a fungal growth as far as I can see.
In 35 years of keeping killies this species is the most fascinating I have
ever maintained. I do not know what this growth is for. Could it be a
bouyancy aid (this species is very weird in this respect), Could it be a
muscle growth to enable it to breed out of water?
We need to pool our ideas in breeding this one. Do they breed out of water,
in caves or even to the most extreme need other species to initiate
spawning.
This is not a standard mop spawning Rivulus, in fact it should have it's own
genera in my opinion.
