[Killietalk] Re: moina, Japanese daphnia

Hello Lynn,
The Moina I purchased from Florida Aqua Farms are very tiny, maybe 3
times the size of a period. I have a tank of guppies that have what I think are
Daphnia in it, and they are much larger, the size of a sesame seed. I said what
I think are Daphnia because they just appeared in the tank one day. I had
been feeding that tank freeze dried daphnia and I suspect maybe some eggs
hatched. I have observed them attacking guppy fry, so I don't know what they are for
sure. Looking at them under a stamp loupe, they seem to be Daphnia. Haven't
had that problem with the Moina, but they are a bit difficult to keep from
crashing. They need to be fed algae every day and protected against the pH dropping
out suddenly ( maybe from too much co2 from thousands of the little
beasties?) . Best bet seems to be to set up a new culture a couple times a week.
