Re: [Killietalk] A. ahli
What a wonderful Tropical fish store. I visited it while there.
Seldom seen a pet store with at least 5 wild Rasbora and wild killies in
the same place. Tanks were immaculate and Latin name of all fish was
correct. One of the finest Pet Stores I have ever seen.
I saw the A. ahli along with some very small wild clown
killies. The A. ahli are from a large commercial shipment that arrived
weeks ago, they hit the east Coast at the same time. This is the second
time A. ahli have arrived within the last 10 months.
Stating wild A. ahli from the Cameroon is like saying an
Aphyosemion from Africa. I have a few pairs from earlier commercial import
and I am simply using CI with the year.
I would advertise a want since the shipment hit many places. I
would only list CI 04 as the designation simply to indicate to purchasers
these are wild or F1.

Hello everyone. My fiance recently returned from a trip to visit family
in Portland, OR (unfortunately it wasn't a trip to the WCW), and she came
home with a gift for me: 2 male Aphyosemion Ahli that she purchased at the
Wet Spot tropical fish store in Portland. As they are beautiful fish, I
hate the thought of not breeding them. She didn't think that the Wet Spot
had any females, but I intend to call them and inquire about whether or
not they have any, and whether they would be willing to ship a couple to
me. If this works out then there will be no problem, but if I cannot
obtain females from them, I was wondering if I should even attempt to
obtain females from another source. These fish were offered as
Aphyosemion Ahli "Cameroon" - wild. No collection data. I'm assuming
they were a commercial import. I'm concerned about whether I should even
attempt to breed them with fish that did not come from that shipment,
because they would most likely come from another location and I could be
mixing 2 different populations. What do you think? Should I just enjoy
the males, and not worry about spawning them, or should I obtain females
elsewhere and pass them on as an aquarium strain?
If I know that the female comes from Cameroon, should I still call them A.
Ahli "Cameroon" ? Thanks for any advice you can give. I'm still new to this.
Thank you,
Joel
