[Killietalk] A. ahli
Hello everyone. My fiance recently returned from a trip to visit family in
Portland, OR (unfortunately it wasn't a trip to the WCW), and she came home
with a gift for me: 2 male Aphyosemion Ahli that she purchased at the Wet
Spot tropical fish store in Portland. As they are beautiful fish, I hate
the thought of not breeding them. She didn't think that the Wet Spot had
any females, but I intend to call them and inquire about whether or not they
have any, and whether they would be willing to ship a couple to me. If this
works out then there will be no problem, but if I cannot obtain females from
them, I was wondering if I should even attempt to obtain females from
another source. These fish were offered as Aphyosemion Ahli "Cameroon" -
wild. No collection data. I'm assuming they were a commercial import. I'm
concerned about whether I should even attempt to breed them with fish that
did not come from that shipment, because they would most likely come from
another location and I could be mixing 2 different populations. What do you
think? Should I just enjoy the males, and not worry about spawning them, or
should I obtain females elsewhere and pass them on as an aquarium strain?
If I know that the female comes from Cameroon, should I still call them A.
Ahli "Cameroon" ? Thanks for any advice you can give. I'm still new to
this.
Thank you,
Joel
