[Killietalk] Terminal diseases was SJOs with dropsy?
Many times we have in our tanks - fish we would
give the WORLD to see spawned and propagated in
OUR fish room but they have some minor or major
problem with a disease or spot of #??# and it
seems to be taking over the fish or group of
fishes and won't go away with all the LFS
treatments or suggestions we try to follow.
Most suggestions hint "The patient probably won't
make it" and at the same time we offer treatment
after treatment and manage to lengthen its life a
few days BUT putting the rest of the fish room at
risk. A splash from a wet net, a bubble splash of
contaminated water from the adjacent tank or just
an innocent mistake and the contamination goes
from tank to tank and one only wonders where it
may stop.
I would like to suggest the best, for the most,
over the longest period of time would be to do in
the fish and do the best one can to clean things
up and rinse out the affected (¿ Infected Tanks
?) and keep everything else living.
Take Wrights message to heart,
Parting shot: I just destroy most fish that show
dropsy, as my cure rates have been near zero.
Only an irreplaceable fish gets heroic
treatment, and I may have made it once or twice,
but the survivor probably was sterile or over
the hill by then. :-( Put effort into the living
and accept that 99% of dropsy patients will die.
Good luck, Ron. Wright
