Re: [Killietalk] Killietalk and verizon (OT)

Bill,

Monday rant time, I guess. :-)

I have not gotten mail from killietalk for over a month now. I contacted verizon and they unblocked the killietalk at aka server so it does not need to reply, but still no mail. The site was unblocked last friday, but I don't see any new stuff even in the archives. I don't know if you(Barry) will receive this or not. Also when I pull up the aka site main page, the photos(gifs) are all just "X" represented and I can neither seee the picutres for the links. I can get photos in the albums including thumbnails so maybe there is some different code or script form the main page I am blocking somehow or a problem I don't understand. Verizon has decided to become a net nanny and censor our mail to protect us from "evil SPAM." Unfortunately, they did this without any notice, any recourse, and their own customer support is being carefully kept in the dark.

They provide a mechanism for unblocking web mail, but the e-mail most of us use is still subject to their beady-brained interpretation of what is SPAM. :-( Bill, the block is still on as recently as this morning, and cannot be removed by the individual customer. We have no say if *they* decide it is SPAM! [As in old, regulated, days, we are just here to pay the bills.]

I'm furious, because they have a monopoly on high speed (DSL) in this area, and they adamantly refuse to even try to fix the problem. I'm about ready to file a class-action suit on behalf of all actwin members who are being bounced (hence unsubscribed, automatically). Our little cow-county courts have been mighty harsh on big guys, such as the City of Los Angeles. Wonder how Verizon would like it if they had to defend themselves in Independence, CA? :-) LMK if other lists are being treated the same, and I'll expand the class.

It does us no good to change e-mail addy to one of the obnoxious ad-supported free ones, because Verizon.net is still our ISP, and many, like me, have no choice in the matter unless we want to sign up for slow dial-up with expensive services like Earthlink or equally nasty net nannies like AOL.

Ken Simolo said he would try once again, today, to get us unblocked. I hope he does, but am enjoying the thought of making Verizon pay expensive lawyers' travel time to our remote county seat. :-)

[Ken: I am assured by Verizon that you, as list owner, can do nothing. Only the owner of Actwin can deal with them on this, since it is their server that is being blocked.]

PS. Who is caring for the web site while Barry is away? The fish on the front page, this AM shows up OK for me, but is misidentified (it's a BIT, not a BIV). I'm tired of this common mistake being propagated.

PPS. Bill. You can read the past postings and get the new ones immediately at: http://fins.actwin.com/killietalk/ .
It's just a PITA to answer from there. [Copy, and "paste as quotation" into your regular editor.]
