You're correct in that the Simps will outgrow the ANNs if both were
raised from tiny fry and if left unchecked, Wright's "din-din" rule applies.
My raising containers are in a constant state of shuffling, fry sorted
according to physical size during water changes, and re-mixed (usually
of different genus or preferrably, non-killie).
IME, as young fry, the Pseudomugil gertrudae is an ideal grow-out
partner for the ANNs. Both are peaceful and grow roughly at the same
rate. It would be better tho, if the Blue-eyes are slightly larger than
the ANNs.
As sub-adults, this relationship continues, encouraging the ANNs to
mid-water and bringing them out of their skittishness, into a feeding
frenzy.

The ANN pair were introduced into containers with very old water and
left alone with a large dose of benign neglect and apart from daily
light feeding, I have no further interaction with the breeders.
(a pic of the containers at;

ANN fry are left to grow out with the adult pair and presumably fed on
infusoria soup (my own concoction in a local killie thread;
http://killies.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=609&start=0) until these are
sorted out and mixed as described earlier.
For most of the combos, fry are not mixed until they're between 3~5mm in
size. From there on, BBS, daphnia, grindal, etc are squirted into the
container-stacks, through feeding holes.
