I have always used DE as a clean up tool to polish the water and remove
cloudiness. to keep the water clean use good bacteria some guys like to use
lava rock, or sponges, I prefer to use  boiled peat in a 5 gallon paint
strainer bag in my filter bed. If it lower the ph to much I add a little
crushed coral not dolomite to the filter bed in another bag.
