[Killietalk] freshwater rotifers
Does anybody out there use freshwater rotifers to feed very small
fry? I am talking about 'Monostyla' and 'Philodina' [sp?]. How do
they compare to, say, 'Paramecium multimicronucleatum' in size and
nutritional value? I've always used paramecium for tiny fry, but
recently got my hands on some rotifers and was wondering if they are
a fry food worth culturing. If they are, does anybody have any
suggestions on what to feed the culture? Somebody suggested
Micro-vert, a Kent Marine product described as "invertebrate food for
fine filter feeders". Is that right?
I was going to try these rotifers on my annulatus (although I got
them primarily as I branch out from killies and try breed some
Microgeophagus ramirezi). The annulatus fry have done well enough
for years on paramecium and a little neglect, but I though it would
be, if nothing else, interesting to try other food sources. Any
thoughts?
