[Killietalk] George Maiier Fund shawl
Hi Edd and all--
I would say, given the weight of the shawl, that it will not only drape well
when worn (and it feels SO luxurious, trust me),but will look beautiful when
hung (which is what I plan to do with the one I made last year for myself).
A humid fish room is probably not the best place, though, given the silk and
wool content of it, but the rest of the house should be OK. Finished color
should be creamy ivory (natural color from the fibers) with some luster from
the silk....I've calculated out the time involved to make it, BTW, since I
made another very similar last year--this shawl will have about 50 hours of
spinning time and about 50 hours of design and knitting time in it. Weaving
in the yarn ends and pinning it out for blocking will probably take me
another couple of hours. Definitely a labor of love here, but the finished
product is worth it....
I agree that this auction should contain rare and unusual items. Personally,
I like the idea of artwork and autographed book copies (especially rare/out
of print). It's too bad that there isn't a way to provide services or
memberships to zoos/wildlife funds/etc (or is there).
All for now. Way too many things to do and not enough time to do them.
