Acrylic cements are solutions of an acrylic polymer in strong solvents. The
resulting bond is more of a weld than a glue line because the strong solvents
actually dissolve the surface of the sheet goods. The safety involves two
parameters. First is the bond strong enough and watertight? That is a matter of
technique, learned by experience. Second, is the matter of toxicity. The solvents
are toxic to you and to the fish at some concentration. But, given sufficient
time, they will evaporate and no residue will be left. To be safe, after
several days in a ventilated space, it should be OK, but a water rinse would not
hurt and you want to check for leaks anyway.
