[Killietalk] Aphyosemion reproductive biology
Aloha Everyone,
has there been any studies on the reproductive biology of the members of
the genus Aphyosemion? I am looking for information regarding fecundity,
net replacement, r or K species comparisons. I am looking for supporting
information to make a case to add the genus to the list of conditionally
approved species for Hawaii import. The generalizations so far are that
they have very specific environmental needs, relatively low reproductive
rate (a few eggs per day and average 2 week incubation), no parental care.
As compared to the more invasive freshwater fish that are super tramp
species (ie goldfish, carp, tilapia, gambusia, etc). Has anyone done any
defenitive work on this genus? Do we have the info to back it up, aside
from hobby type observations regarding how difficult a given species is. It
may be difficult with the different sub genera or the large "roloffia"
types, that tend to be substrate spawners that produce lots of eggs.....
any ideas or suggestions would be apreciated.
