Re: [Killietalk] F&WL Inspection

Bob,

This is a good idea. I will try to make a page on the web site, probably under library, outlining the procedure for importing fish as I understand it. I will ask one of my contacts at F&WL to look it over. However, I would be reluctant to be dogmatic about whether to carry fish as carry on or checked luggage etc. There is simply too much variation between airlines. Perhaps we could give the options and say "check with your airline". The reality is, though, that you are probably best to just pack the fish in either carry on or checked luggage, or both, and say nothing. I'd very unwilling to say that on a web page.

If I don't get this done soon, keep reminding me.

I think it would be useful if somebody (who does this regularly) put together
the requirements for bringing fish into the country as airline luggage,
cargo, or by mail. It should list forms (USF&WS, Commercial Invoice, etc.) and
where to get them, and instructions such as arranging to have the F&WS inspector
meet the plane. That information can pretty much be summarized from this
thread, and should be printed in KN on at least a quarterly basis.

It's no use blaming the agencies for doing their jobs, when the culprit is us
for not looking into the matter sufficiently before attempting the
importation.

It's not important how we did it three years ago. That time is gone. - Bob G.
