Re: Mailing live animals (was Re: [Killietalk] (no subject))

I don't quite understand your message. You are saying that BAS has a relationship with F&WL. What kind of relationship do you mean? And what is the relationship of that to the fact that USPS confiscated some fish? Surely the recipient and sender were entitled to be told why they were confiscated. If the fish are properly packed and are not leaking the USPS cannot confiscate them. If they were mailed from outside the US, possibly they brought them to the notice of F&WL. Without proper paperwork they could certainly confiscate them.

Please clarify what you meant.

Hey all:

The Brooklyn Aquarium Society has a relationship with Fish & Wildlife, where members of the BAS house fish confiscated through the mail.
Now I don't know if these are confiscated because they were shipped in improper containers, boxes etc., it is usually done with a styrofoam box within cardboard box, and is noted, live fish. Or it could be like someone said a busy-body with nothing better to do.

I do know that shipping with a private freight company, i.e. FedEx Airborne Express etc., is fine and the fish get throught with the styrofoam, cardboard etc.
