That sound about right. The dominant malse are darker. This species seems to
take about a year to really reach maturity and begin producing lots of eggs.
I still have the original male that I started with. He is amazing the other
males left after the attack of the velvet monster are half his size and
somewhat lighter in color. The older they get the darker the blue coloring
come.

If you have several males in the same tank, does one or maybe at the most 2
go to the dark coloration?  Roloffia seem to have a dark color as a
"dominant" male but when not dominant they go lighter.
