The aspect of this post I find most interesting is Andrew's observation
that the more often he picks his mops, the more eggs he gets. I have
also seen this happen. If I pick once a week I often find a dozen or so
eggs. If I pick daily, I find a dozen a day. It seems the more often I
pick eggs the more the fish seem to produce. Any ideas why?

I agree. They are eating them.

For Andrew, if embryonated eggs are fungusing try incubating the eggs on damp peat. We when you can see the color of their eyes, so to speak. That is, when they are fully eyed up.
