Put some "tea peat" into the water when hatching them out next time and you
should not have any more bellysliders any more.

Subject: [Killietalk] bellysliders

Hi,

    My livebearers Phalloceros caudimaculatus reticulatus produce
bellysliders. I have no idea what causes this but there are 1 or 2
bellysliders in every
batch.
    Back in 1973, the N&RSC under the late great Steve Sellers brought in a
huge shipment of wild nigripinnis, bellottii and elongatus. I jumped on all
three (female M. elongatus are fantastic looking predators!). The
nigripinnis
were prolific. Hatches were easily in the 300 range. I had like 4 30's
filled
with nigripinnis. I was 16 and dreaming of all the trades I could make with
my
lfs. At 5 weeks they started turning into bellysliders -- fish that had
been
perfectly fine. There had been 0 bellysliders when first hatched. After a
few
weeks I had maybe 50 normal fish left out of 100's. My only guess is
temperature
as these fish like it cool and my tanks were always at least 75-78 degrees.
