The test for chlorine/choramine first determines total chlorine and then  
after transforming the chlorine to chloride with sodium thiosulfate, tests for 
the liberated ammonia. Since carbon adsorbs chlorine, chloramine and ammonia and 
other stuff, you get everything in one step. Now if I can devise a cheap and 
effective in line meter for chlorine, I could spend the rest of my life in an 
easy chair watching the water flow.
