Do you have a pic of how you returned water to your tanks?

The only pics are in my albums in the gallery, members only area, AKA site. The water ran into drains made from 1.5" PVC, then via a spray bar over lava rock in a gutter (a variation on the deBruyn filter), then into the sump to be pumped around again via a UV sterilizer.

Did you ever have problems with peat clogging your overflow strainers?

Yes, particularly in tanks with young fish where I was using sponge plugs as strainers. This is a real problem with recirc sysems because water is flowing into the tank continually. With the new system I haven't had that problem so far because the water flows in only long enough to do a 10% change, 5 days a week (7 for the fry boxes). If the strainer is partially clogged, slowing drainage, the tank probably won't overflow. The water level will rise, but after the inflow shuts off, it will slowly drain out. So far I've not had a single overflow.

Thanks for the Help, Kris

Kris,

I am going over and over the same opinion, but my advice would be against
recirculating and for flow-through systems, and I have tried both. I have
just converted all my recirc systems to flow through. If you come to the
next meeting at my place, probably June, you can see first hand what I have
done.
