I will take you collecting sometime. I know a great site in Corvallis
where I would collect them every spring for a few weeks before the
water hole dried up. Timing is the hardest part as the hole can dry up
quick. The other hard part is cleaning them. I used to run them under a
constant trickle of water in a basement sink to wash away all the
sediment. The fish really did love them though. It was their once a
year treat.

Great post. How did they gain such a horrible reputation? Also, can
they be sustainably cultured on a small scale? I have kept blackworms
in the past, but found that they didn't reproduce fast enough to
warrant the time and effort I was spending on them.
