[Killietalk] Micro-worms - honest question
Let me start by relating my very limited killie experiences with this
popular live food.
As a very inexperienced 'newbie' with killies, I have now successfully
reared two batches of fry from eggs purchased via Aquabid - no thanks to
microworms. Both batches of fry hatched too small to feed on BBS, so I put
a lot of java moss in the nurseries for cover and as a source of
"infusoria", and fed small amounts of microworms a couple of times a day.
The thing is, I never once observed pot-bellied fry after feeding the MWs.
Nor did I notice any predatory behavior on the part of the fry toward the
worms. This behavior, and the resulting swollen orange bellies, was very
evident once they were large enough to take BBS, but by the time they were
large enough to do so, I was concerned for their health because they seemed
very thin.
So I have to wonder, did my fry ever actually eat any microworms? The
follow-up question has to be, do ANY killie fry actually eat the things?
I'm wondering if they are even worth culturing now.
I would be interested in any of your experiences or observations on the
subject.
Thanks,
Scott
