[Killietalk] RE: tips for working with peat?
I use glass ivy bowls that can be had at Michael's or the Rag Shop for about
$.50 when they are having a grand opening of a new store-otherwise they are
about $1.49-$1.99. Or glass drum bowls. These things don't move around in
the tank and I have not noticed any reluctance of spawning (although I do
not breed many annuals).

IME, the bulk of annuals will spawn any damned where, but some species
seem very reluctant to spawn in clear containers. Glass is nice and
cheap, as are photo cubes on sale, but I have found reliable spawning
happens better when the fish feel they are hiding the eggs in a ceramic
or otherwise opaque container.
Since I made these observations some years ago, I don't know if I'm just
being prejudiced now or if there is some validity to my old notions.
