Re: [Killietalk] digital camera recommendations
In some cases I do things a little different.......... like everyone else:
Things to look for in a digital fish camera:
Control of shutter delay. Good half-press to preset, or really, really
Hate the delay, do not use auto focus, takes too long......... I use manual
fix focus, that is I focus the lens and do not re-focus. I select
the image size and move the camera to compose, again must be SLR to do
this quickly............... the less things I depend on having to change
the better ... Keep it simple, Fix focus the lens and move to capture
Useful remote release to stop camera shake and keep photographer well out
of sight of the fish.
Never use a remote, just more stuff in the way, rely on longer macros and
patience to capture image
External flash sync. Hot shoe or PC connector is essential, At least one
external and maybe more with electronic eyee to set off multiple flases or
connected as slaves for ttl metering........ depends....
Good (metal) tripod mount. Should not block battery or memory access.
Never use it for fish, just more junk in the way, there is no
movement going to be recorded with electronic flash......... the duration
of the flash iis too short. I chase the fish with the flash in one hand
and camera in the other composing image and positioning flash as I
work, Always wear dark clothing with no writing on t shirts , just in case
of reflection ........
External power supply or very good battery life. [Proprietary batteries,
like Sony Info-Lithium are better than NiMH, IMHO.]
Absolutely and I have another set of batteries sitting
next to me at all times.....
Photography is like raising annuals, we do not replicated the
environment, we have our preferences and thankfully there is a wide
latitude in the close enough. arena for success...................
Different strokes for different folks.
