Re: [Killietalk] fry boxes

I use a flow thru system for my fry boxes which are shoe boxes. The inlet line goes into the box top and is connected to a 1/8 inch plastic elbow that is used in drip irrigation. Then it just drips in from the top. My overflow is cut into the shoe box near the top and I insert a small ball of filter floss material into this outlet opening which prevents any fry from being lost. When the filter floss gets dirty it is a simple matter to replace it.

Hi all,

This may be a dumb question, but I was wondering how people attach the feeder line to shoe boxes in both recirculating and flow through systems. For example on page 20 of the Jan./Feb. JAKA issue, it looks like Barry Cooper's fry boxes just have a small hole and the feeder line inserted, but I can't quite tell for sure from the picture, (probably from my bad eyesight). I know when I acclimate new fish I just put the line under the lid and close it and I can't tell if that is what Barry did or if he drilled a hole.

Also on the AKA website where Lee Harper shows his flow through set up, I can't tell how the lines with the emitters are attached to the boxes.

Another question is Lee shows he uses some kind of foam to prevent the fry from "going over the side." Is that foam sponge-like or is it rigid?

One more question: I noticed Lee stacks his fry boxes. How do you feed, maintain etc. when the boxes are stacked?

Thanks!
