Re: [Killietalk] red shrimp

Robert,
To purchase "Red Shrimp" try The Aquarium Center
located in Baltimore Maryland at 3689-A Offutt Road
Randallstown, MD 21133. STORE HOURS are Mon-Sat
10AM-9PM EST Sun 12PM-5PM EST. Phone 1-800-813-8172 or
try on line at www.aquariumcenter.com. Ask for Ali(
the fish room manager). They have "Cherry Shrimp" in
stock.I know they ship plants and dry goods, I do not
know if they ship shrimp. I believe they want $3.99
each for the cherry shrimp. These shrimp get a very
deep red color when mature. Ali can sex a young pair
or two or three to ship to you. Be patient and give
them the necessary "Ca, Mg to make chitin They also
responded well to above-average levels of iodide (not
iodine)" mentioned by Wright Huntley.Plan to provide a
species specific tank with plenty of plants for the
shrimp to hide in and use coarse gravel for the shrimp
to role around and pick at. A drip through system
seems to work best. Temps below 80F(I lost my cherry
shrimp above that temp during the past summer). PH
around 6.8 to 7.0. Provide mum from other healthy
tanks. I also lay on the bottom of the tank a few 1/2"
CPVC pipes cut to about an 2" inch length and install
a end cap. Pore gravel on top of the pipes laying on
the tank bottom to create caves. When the female
Cherry Shrimp does have eggs they are the most
beautiful deep red translucent color. The Aquarium
Center stock many types of shrimp, cray fish, clams, hard
to find plants and of coarse Killie fish from the top
breeders in the area.
Best Regards,
David Howser
