Re: [Killietalk] Aphyosemion sp. Lobaye
Thanks Joe.
Same species/location. Water or Peat incubation? I have the temp around 76, so maybe I'll drop it a bit. Other water parameters are similar to yours. Females are nice and fat, but I've only gotten 2 eggs so far from 2 pairs.

Nick, I haven't seen a reply to your post so I'll put my 2 cents in. I have
A. christyi Lobaye which I assume is the same species/population. But I've
only had them since May, so my experience is pretty slim. Having quite a
number of the elegans group, I find these fairly typical of the group with
one exception. They seem to spawn in spurts. I find eggs for a week or
less then they stop for a period of time(usually several weeks) and then
resume spawning again. Quantities are low, maybe two to six eggs per day.
Fairly high hatch rate compared to some - perhaps in the 90% area.
I haven't played around with them enough yet to get a good understanding of
their needs. Water quality may be a factor, but that is just speculation on
my part.
I have them in a five gallon tank with floating mop and Java Fern, neutral
water, don't know the hardness probably on the high side. and have them at
low 70F. Water changes weekly. Fed live adult brine and black worms. Hope
this helps.
