RE: [Killietalk] Coca-Cola method

I suspect that this method is as humane as any other, but I personally prefer to drop the fish into ice water. That is also quick, and I believe causes minimal pain.

The AVMA approved methods for fish euthanasia in laboratory fish are all essentially impractical for hobbyists. CO2 exposure is an approved method, although it is annotated that CO2 exposure is stressful for some animals. The post some weeks ago about using a carbonated beverage, such as Coke (or better club soda) could be considered. My instinct, however, is that exposure of fish to a super-saturated solution, with gas bubbles forming, might be stressful.

On the rare occasion that I have to hasten the unavoidable demise of one of

Have I been doing the wrong thing? Have I been causing unnecessary
suffering? Please advise. The fishes seem to expire in a second or less
using my method.

Thanks,
