On the rare occasion that I have to hasten the unavoidable demise of one of
my fishes, I have always thrown them in a pot of water that was at a rolling
boil.  I've done this for years, per the advice of friends and family.  

Have I been doing the wrong thing?  Have I been causing unnecessary
suffering?  Please advise.  The fishes seem to expire in a second or less
using my method.

Aw shucks to put them out of their suffering throw them in a pot of rice
with a little soy sauce and invite the club members over for supper a few
veggies help.
local far east store has dried golden wonders that they eat like crackers.
They also have a fish paste in jars that you can see the color patterns in
the fish inside of the jar, thy taste very salty and are not very good on
crackers.
