Re: [Killietalk] got a couple snail questions
Hi,
I've seen a lot of places that have a booming population of Physa snails,
and that includes my local Petsmart. They are total water bunnies, limit
themselves to eating algae, leave the plants alone. I drop a few in hatching
containers to clean up. When the fish get large enough, the snails tend to
disappear.
Here's a pic:

First, thanks Mach, for the reply about Chuck, great guy. In a shipment of
eggs in long-fibered peat were these tiny ramshorn-looking snails: about
1/4 to 1/3 inch diameter and roughly about 1/16 inch
thick through the shell. They don't eat eggs (got 15 eggs of A. amoenum
Sakbeyeme and 13 hatched
out) and don't grow any bigger than described above. Has anyone encountered
this mini-snail? Also, in
two of my tanks I have what looks like MTS but they are light-gray in color
and prolific as rabbits. Don't
know where they came from but it looks like I didn't clean some plants well
enough before placing
in my tanks. Being the same conical shape as MTS (have pulled specimens
more than an inch long
from these tanks) I suspect they eat eggs as well (a la Wright's posts). To
see these many baby snails
(little gray specks on the front glass) leads me to believe they might be
egglayers, not livebearers. Am
I all wet? Any info is greatly appreciated.
Bill
