I ran some tests.  
Here are the results from a few weeks of immersing 1/2 almond leaf in one 
pint water.
                Tap water                       Deionized water
            10/11/03        10/13   10/26   10/11/03        10/13   10/26

pH              6.8         6.0     6.0         5.9         5.2     5.2

TDS         244ppm  285 300     15          86      105

The tap water turned a darker brown than the deionized water.
