Re: [Killietalk] Here we go !! ?Designer killies !!

From: BizEcology at aol_com
As soon as I saw "designer killies" the first thing that popped
into my mind was "Singapore." Those scumbags will pervert any
animal if they can make a profit from it.

Dear all, while there have been unethical manupilations for 'designer fishes', it would be unfair for our friend here to balantly and blanket generalize breeders as scumbags. Money is the root of all evil, and so too, the root of all disfigured fishes.

There's a small but growing numbers of breeders/importers/fish-hobbyists going back to basics and breeding from wild-caught specimens, or at least breeding true to what we understand as correct.

We're all on a learning curve and as Tony later realized, not everyone knows what a 'Flag fish' looks like, be it a 'designer item' or the real McCoy.

Tony, over here in Singapore, the dedicated fish-keepers share your concern. Only with time, knowledge and a change of mindset, can we overcome these 'new things' (even though I'm sure there's more to come).

Before your post, I had two in my planted tank and thought it 'looked funny'. Futher reference to my copy of Exotic tropical fishes (Expanded edition) and your message, confirmed it to be a dud. I gave it away.
