[Killietalk] Arnodi

Hi All,

It is interesting that people are beginning to report odd incubation
times and resting eggs with arnoldi. The same thing occurred with the last widely
distributed aquarium strain from Scheel (1958?-1967) and was responsible for
its loss. People reported eggs that refused to hatch no matter what was done,
usually eggs in water incubation. I've had no trouble in peat with 6-8 week
incubation at 75F. I keep my peat moist -- some water squeezes out if I press a
bit between two fingers -- and I use alot of peat for spawning, like about a
quart or more. I believe eggs incubate better in large portions of peat and that
many problems occur when tiny amounts are used. I buy Premier peat from
Canada by the half bushel. With Gnatholebias I use almost a half gallon of peat per
spawning container. We should probably keep an eye on any arnoldi egg
hatching problems. They might be a warning sign if history tells us anything.
