Re: [Killietalk] Wireless and DSL was Directway Cost/Restrictions
We have wireless here in WI as well. The one ISP I know that has it is
still expanding their coverage area, and you can only get it in one county
right now. However, I know one person who has it, and as long as there are
no obstructions, average connection speeds are higher than the average dsl
and cable speeds. It also only costs about $35 per month with the equipment
rental included. I would check on getting sbc yahoo dsl since it's only
$27/month for the first year, and you get a free modem. I'll be using it
soon. (service is activated tomorrow, but I have to wait for my new
computer to be built). :p

Wireless is here in Northern Va, it's not that great so far. Limited to
line of sight and the same things that obstruct satellite obstruct wireless,
unless you look at the short range(300 ft) or cellular(too expnsive). I
have a co-worker who tried the wireless forr 6 months and went with DSL as
soon as it was available. He never got the wireless to work properly. but
it was cheaper than satellite as far as the inital setup cost, but the
monthly fee was about the same.
I pay about the same for DSL as I did for a second phone line and dial-up!
One more thing on the Direcway, they contract out for their tech support, if
you can find a number to call. It's not very good at all if you have
problems, from my experience.
