Good morning everyone,
I'm considering building a flow through fry rearing system and would like to get some input from those of you who have experience with flow-throughs.
My plan is to have three 2.5 gallon tanks on one shelf and two 5 gallon
tanks on the shelf below. All five tanks will be drilled and fitted
with a PVC bulkhead and elbow, similar to the system that Barry Cooper
has pictured in his album on the AKA site. The over flow will be
plumbed with .5" PVC and will dump into a 30 gallon sump which will
contain lava rock, a heater and a return pump. The return will be
plumbed with .5 " PVC back up to the fry tanks, and will flow through a
UV sterilizer.
I'm particularly interested in how people have mounted their drip emitters to prevent leaking, what size return pumps are being used, and if the return plumbing is deadheaded at the end or returned to the sump.
I'd also like to hear how people would do their systems over, now that they already have them up and running.
Lastly, aside from UV sterilization and quarantine, what do people do about disease control, and what experiences do you guys have with disease in these types of systems?
Cheers,
Chris Rye NY
