Re: [Killietalk] Problem hatching brine shrimp eggs
I would suspect your water quality. That is the water you are using to
make up your hatching solution. From personal experience I have used
hard water and soft water from a softener when making up a hatching
solution. I often found that my water changed enough to often effect the
hatching rate of the brine shrimp eggs. Now I only use the water after
my softener and it seems to stay pretty constant and I get uniform
hatches. I would suggest you check your water sorce to see if there has
been any significant changes.

Up until a few weeks ago , I was always getting great hatches and the eggs
were seperating well in the water in the hatching jar. Suddenly , the hatch rate
went to near zero and the eggs no longer sink or float at harvest time , but
rather stay suspended in the water. Nothing was changed - same water source ,
same salt , same temperature. I even tried 2 additional cans of eggs , all
premium grade , never opened. No luck. Various salinities and salts (non-iodized
, marine) , pH levels , and water sources (tap , RO) have been tried with the
same results.
Any ideas on why this is happening? Suggestions? Seems a bit hard to believe
that top quality eggs from 3 different sources would all be bad at the same
time , especially those that were hatching fine previously.
