[Killietalk] re: killies on the bubble-ISH
Hello KillieFishie people,
Why are we forgetting our native killiefish populations? Would it be to
much to ask that we AKAers even try to keep at least a native Killie or two?
We will spend $244 on a pair of mimbon $160 on episemion callipteron and
watch a outrageously striking Fund. catenatus go for $5.
Sure you think to yourself, hey I can get them out of the stream behind my
house for free. That is right up until the hog farm 10 miles upstream blast
10 tons of you now what in the creek and EVERYTHING in the stream is dead
for 20 miles!!!! I would bet the describers of Fund. albolineatus thought
that too.
We have some unique opportunities to keep some of the most unique niche
fish that exist, in the pupfish and do not take the time to look at them in
the shows. We skip right past them Looking for the joergenscheeli's and
magnificus's of the shows. I would like you to think to yourself who could
I get ahold of to get a pair Megupsilon aporus, or cyprinodon diabolis,
cyprinodon armagosae I bet you couldn't think of one. Hello folks the
Colorado is drying up!!!!!!! What has occured in the 20 th Century and what
will be left at the end of the 21st????? DO YOU SUPPOSE ANYTHING?
We obviously cannot sacrifice human habitation, The fish habitats WILL BE
GONE I GUARANTEE IT!! So don't you think one 20 gallon long is to much for
what God took all this time to create for us? We are the strong and we
will survive but at whose sacrifice, well at least until the bacteria are
all that is left anyway.
Why doesn't the AKA with all that money they do not know how to spend
develop maintenance pools using trust fund interest to maintain them, I am
sure that the US GOV. would pitch in $2 or $3? Allthough, I believe that we
as hobyists could be better served having a couple of natives hanging
around. just think if every AKA member had a couple of Cyprinodons or
fundulus etc. running around in their Tanks if they would get the chance to
disappear.
Does anyone Know how many of our native Killies are on the KCC core species
list?
The europeans love the american killies and most of us could give a crap
less. It is just sad!!!!!!!
Ok I have said MY pease, By the way if anyone out there has a cyprinodon or
two I would not mind getting a couple myself. I allready have Fund. notatus
from the creek near my home in Iowa and am planning atrip in the spring to
collect diaphanus and sciadicus if i can find them. HOW ABOUT YOU? One or
two tanks is all I ask for you to sacrifice.
Some natives are protected from conservationists and licensing may be
required; talk to your DNR if you are not sure or the US fish and wildlife
service!
Thanks to all that are allready struggling to save our native
fishes!!!!!!!!!!!!
God Bless, Lee van Hyfte <><
