This has been my experience exactly.  The dacap procedure that I used to use is
pretty close to the one posted to Brineshrimp Direct.  Over the years I found
that if I shell out a few more bucks for better grade eggs such as those from
Jehmco or Brineshrimp Direct that I get great hatches with enough separation
that I don't have to decap.  Even if you only value your time at $30/hr it
comes out ahead.

Another thing I found that I like is a conical 2 liter hatcher sold by Florida
Aquafarms.  The airstone hangs down the center and the whole thing works like a
sep-funnel.  Turn off the air for 10 min, bleed off the unhatched eggs and then
collect the shrimp leaving all the shells at the top.  Works a lot better in my
hands then a siphon set up.
