Somehow I have never had problems with a "purple fringe" or other color abberations with my coolpix 775.  The only complaint I have (outside of the auto-focus shutter lag) is that there isn't a jack for external flash.  The only reason I still have my Nikon SLRs is for use with studio flash equipment and the great micro-nikor lens.

The nice think about digital cameras is that you can take some pics in the store and judge the results for yourself.

For those who have not yet made the investment, it looks like the camera companies are getting ready to come out with digital SLR bodies for under $1000 that can take the standard 35mm lenses.  When I can get a digital camera that can take my old Nikon SLR lenses, I'll grab it.
