Re: [Killietalk] Digital cameras
The 5000 has many problems. One is the grip/flash sensor. Nikon put the flash sensor behind the grip. Your fingers will likely block it, causing underexposed pictures. Another problem with the 5000 is PCB connections. Long connector extensions magnify stress. The connector solder joints crack and cause malfunctions. A third problem is the lens aperatures. Any slight shock causes them to jump out of alignment, causing intermittent exposure problems. Otherwise its an ok camera. I have no info for the 5400. This is a newer model and Nikon has not released the service manuals or any training as of late summer.
If you are wondering how I know this, I have been to Nikon training and have repaired hundreds of these. My knowledge is based on repair trends. I know all the dirty little secrets in the consumer electronics world. Buyer beware!

I know we have had a lot of comments on digital cameras on this list but
I am in need of a newer digital camera and thought as long as I am
getting a new camera I should get one that I could use to take pictures
of some of my killies. The cameras real use is for my wife's real estate
business. I am looking at the Canon G3 and the Nikon coolpix 5000 or
5400. Has anyone had any experiences with these cameras?? Would
appreciate any input.
Thanks,
