[Killietalk] Not found error for members only area
Hi all,
One thing that occurred to me that might explain the problem that a few of
you are having in getting access to the members only area is this:
The Apache server is sensitive to case in URLs. The folder for the members
only area happens to have an upper case M. Therefore the URL must be
www.aka.org/Members_only/. This should attempt to open the default page for
members only, which will bring up the authentication box for you to fill
in. It is possible that some of you are using a URL with a lower case m. If
so, try the link exactly as given above. It is also possible some of you
are using bookmarks that are out of date or incorrect somehow. If you go to
the home page using www.aka.org, then click on the Members Only nav button
at the left, that should bring up a page
(www.aka.org/pages/members_only.html) that tells you what to enter in the
authentication box that is to follow. (Note that there I used a lower case
m. It was not deliberately designed to confuse you, I promise). You then
click on Enter to get to the actual members only area. Clicking on Enter
should bring up the authentication box. Filling it in correctly with your
member number and password should get you in.
If you continue to have trouble, contact me by private email, but please
tell me exactly at what point in the above steps you are getting an error.
By the way, I will admit that the upper case M amounts to an error on my
part. I try always to use lower case URLs, but my fingers have an
intelligence of their own and want to type upper case at the beginning of
sentences. Once I had the M in there, I had to stick with it. At some point
I will figure out how to tell the server to be case insensitive. Just
haven't had time. Maybe this would be a good time to figure it out!
Lastly, you do not need to go to the Members Only area to use the members
forums. Click on the link to AKA forums in the middle of the home page.
That will bring up forums. If you are unfamiliar with the procedure, click
on the Forum at the top of the list called How to Use the Forums. If you
are registered, logged in and you have already been granted access to
members forums, you can simply click on one of those to use it.
