Re: [Killietalk] Flies in my culture :(

I agree that the bird protectors are much more effective than mothballs for keeping little flies out of the grindal worm culture. The chemical is paradichlorbenzene. On the back of the can there is a paper seal. Rather than taking that off, just punch a few small holes in it. You don't need to release a huge amount of the vapor and by limiting the number of holes the stuff will last longer. You'll be able to smell it as long as it's working.

Grindal worms are very much like white worms, just much smaller.

Just go on over to specks and tell Keith Or Johnathon that you want a bird
protector. put one in each culture and the mites will disappear as long as
it is there. It is a little round steel can I do not know what it has in it
but it raises hell with mites and fruit flies. ( do not tell Charlie Grimes
or Jim Gram please I have to have a few tricks.)
Hope to see you Sunday Oct. 6th here for the EXK meeting.
