Re: [Killietalk] RE: Traveling to Canada and back- s problem?
I will expand on my previous note. Prior to 9/11, I made about 6 round trips
into Canada every year for over 30 years and never needed any identification.
We were in Canada on 9/11 and it took over two hours to get back into the US
and we were advised to carry our passports in the future. Shortly afterward, my
son was traveling to our cabin and did not have a passport, because he did
not have one. It took him several hours, not waiting in line, but in inspection
and interrogation. He obtained a passport for the future and has had no
problems since. If you have a passport, take it with you. If you don't, a valid
birth certificate with official embossed certification is the next best advice. It
is not necessary to go into Canada, but if you want to come home without
delay, other than waiting for others ahead of you, take your passport. It will
speed your passage and most likely avoid a lengthy car search.
