Re: [Killietalk] Poly Filter
The poly filter pieces I used were from a freshly opened, as from that pet
place, original sleeve, sealed and all. The stuff looked just fine and was
in brand new unstained condition. The pieces were very small maybe 1/4 inch
on a side and I put about 1 1/2 inches of water in a 3 1/2 inch bag for most
of the fish. I like a lot of water to make it easier for the recipient to
condition the fish once home. None of the fish with no poly filter died and
one of the fish (a small elberti male) that was "dying" recovered with new
water and the filter removed. The Diapterons died on Friday, the day after I
bagged them. I did not suspect anything but their sensitivity to transport.
Three female fallax and a pr of ansorgii Saturday morning. Since I had
bagged trios, I removed the extra females and still didn't suspect the
polyfilter. It worked well in fry boxes at home and was not supposed to
"soften" water which should not have caused a big unbalance in osmotic
pressure. I heard from Carl Phack that he lost his fallax. I had two other
prs of fallax in the auction but have not heard from the buyers. I only
used poly filter with those fish I got from tanks they lived in (which were
not fed since Tuesday). The fallax, ansorgii, elberti and Diapterons I
brought were from such tanks. The chaperi, congicum, ogoense 80-23 and
80-24 were pulled to holding tanks and had no polyfilter. They all were
fine. . I think only 3 pr of fallax and one pr of ansorgii got to the
fishroom sale with polyfilter. Others (Diapterons and elberti) were held
for people who had asked that I bring them in trade
