Re: [Killietalk] Poly Filter as a biological filter

tanks?

Poly filter is usually used as a chemical filter. Often it is a God sent in
an emergency.

It could, like almost any other flow through item, be used a part of a
biological filter. Be careful about clogging - it may be too quickly
effective as a mechanical filter. (I seem to remember using an old one to
clean algae.)

They often turn black pretty quickly after their emergency application. Sort
of like charcoal or an amazing list of "stuff", that would be the time to
use them for something else after their initial use was up. (Ah the
thriftiness of killie people!)

By the way, one needs to be careful storing them. I purchased one in a fish
bag at an auction, plunked it on the shelf and forgot about it. Turns out
that the fishbag is considerably more permiable than the usual commercial
packaging they come in.

That rectangle of Poly Filter turned brown in time. But the fishroom smelled
nice. ;)

All the best,
